Government of India has issued a stern warning letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and has conveyed its strong disapproval of misrepresenting Indian map. The government also asserted in the letter that any attempt by the social media and micro-blogging platform to disrespect sovereignty and integrity of India would be totally unacceptable.
IT Secretary Ajay Sawhney said in a rather strongly-worded letter that such attempts by Twitter raise a question on the fairness and neutrality of the platform as an intermediary, and also brings down its reputation.
In a previous incident, Twitter had shown Leh located in People’s Republic of China. Sawhney reminded Twitter in his letter that Leh is the headquarter of Union Territory of Ladakh and that both Ladakh as well as Jammu and Kashmir are an integral and inalienable parts of India, which are governed by the Constitution of India.
The IT secretary issued a stern warning, and has said that any such attempts by Twitter will hurt the sentiments of the people of India. The letter also said that the sovereignty of India which is also reflected by the maps must be respected.
