India is one of the largest producers of coffee in the world. Coffee is largely produced in the southern part of India as regions have diverse climatic conditions. Let’s discuss the top 10 coffee producing states in India.

Karnataka

Karnataka is the largest producer of coffee in India. The Chikmagalur city of Karnataka is also one of the biggest contributors to India’s coffee production. In the fiscal year 2022, Karnataka had 71.5 per cent of the total production of coffee. The annual production of coffee in Karnataka is around 2.33 lakh metric tons.

Kerala

Kerala is the second-largest producer of coffee in India. The two major types of coffee beans produced in Kerala are Arabica and Robusta. In the fiscal year 2022, the Nelliampathi district of Kerala had the largest production of Arabica coffee beans with 1050 metric tons. The annual production of coffee in Kerala is around 67700 metric tons.

Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu is the third-largest producer of coffee in India. Pulneys, Nilgris, Salem and Coimbatore are the main coffee growing regions in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu accounts for 5 per cent of coffee bean production in India with 8,200 tonnes.

Andhra Pradesh

With a production of 7,425 Metric Tonnes of coffee, Andhra Pradesh is the fourth-largest producer of coffee in India. Andhra Pradesh mostly produces Arabica and Robusta Coffee. In the Araku Valley Hill Station, people will get to smell the fresh aroma of coffee beans.

Odisha

Odisha is the fifth-largest coffee-producing state in India. The total production of coffee is 550 Metric Tonnes. Rayagada, Phulbani, Koraput and Keonjhar are the main coffee producing regions in Odisha.

Tripura

Tripura is one of the leading states in coffee production. The two major types of coffee beans produced in Tripura are Arabica and Robusta. The annual production of coffee in Tripura is around 12 to 14 metric tons.

Nagaland

Nagaland is one of the largest producers of coffee in India. Currently, Nagaland has nearly 10,000 hectares of coffee cultivation. Nagaland is taking steps to expand coffee cultivation to 50,000 hectares by 2030.

Assam

Assam is famous for its tea garden. However, it is also one of the leading states in coffee production. Assam has regions known for coffee making. Coffee cultivation was started in the Cachar district of Assam in 1953.

Meghalaya

Coffee in Meghalaya is cultivated at high altitudes of 1300 to 4000 ft. The east hills are suitable for coffee production. The annual production of coffee in Meghalaya is around 6 to 8 metric tons.

Manipur

Manipur mainly produces Arabica and Robusta varieties of coffee beans. It is the tenth-largest producer of coffee in India. Districts of Manipur are now taking drives for coffee plantations.
