Justice Sanjiv Khanna became the 51st Chief Justice of India on Monday. His name was proposed by the justice DY Chandrachud as his successor. According to the official news source ANI, Today the oath of office was administered by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The event was attended by notable figures of India including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President of India, and Justice Chandrachud.

Justice Sanjiv Khanna was appointed to the Supreme Court in January 2019. He got recognition for his work on major cases, especially in the areas of civil liberties, constitutional rights, and social justice.
His journey in law began in Delhi where he pursued his education at Delhi University’s Campus Law Centre. He is a third-generation lawyer from a distinguished legal family, he has upheld a legacy.
Justice Khanna has contributed to pivotal judgments including cases on the abrogation of Article 370 and electoral reforms. He is widely respected for his rights-based judicial philosophy, commitment to judicial transparency, and support for legal reforms. Though his tenure as CJI will be brief expectations are high for his contributions toward expediting justice delivery and addressing pressing social issues.
