The top five Batsman with most runs in IPL history

The Indian Premier League has become one of the most popular cricket events in the world. Some batsmen have proven to be cut above the rest in the IPL’s history by consistently performing over time.

1. Virat Kohli

Former Indian captain, who led the Bangalore franchise from 2013 to 2021, is currently leading the league in runs scored. With an average of 36.58 and a strike rate of 129.80, Virat has amassed more than 6000 runs in IPL. So far in the league, he has a total of 42 half-centuries and 5 centuries. 4 out of the 5 tons came in the 2016 season, when he hit a career-high 973 runs.

2. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan, the Indian ODI opener, is the second most successful batsman in IPL history. He has 6507 runs under his belt, with an average of 35.17 and a 126.92 strike rate. He was vital for the Delhi Capitals throughout the last two or three seasons. He was previously useful as an opener for Sunrisers Hyderabad alongside David Warner.

3. Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma, who has won five IPL titles as captain, has also performed admirably as a batter. In 216 innings played in the IPL, he has scored 5764 runs, the third-most in the league’s history, at an average of 30.65 and a strike rate of 130.28. This comprises a total of 140 half-centuries, with a 109* as his greatest score. He has opened for the Mumbai Indians since 2019 and is likely to do so again this year.

4. David Warner

David Warner, the former captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, has the most runs scored in the IPL among overseas players and the fourth-best overall record. In the ongoing 2022 season, he surpassed Suresh Raina’s total of 5528 runs. He has 6095 runs in 155 innings, with a 41.98 average and a 140.57 strike rate. So far in the league, he has 4 centuries and 53 half-centuries. Warner had a poor first half of the past IPL season, and was even dropped from the starting XI. In the super auction, his former franchise Delhi Capitals paid INR 6.25 crores for him.

5. Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina, dubbed Mr IPL, has lived up to the moniker by performing admirably right from the start of the competition. With 5528 runs in 200 innings at an average of 32.51 and a strike rate of 136.73, he ranks fourth in the league. Despite his stellar performance in the IPL over the years, he went unsold in the IPL 2022 mega auction. CSK had decided not to keep the left-handed batter prior to the sale.
