India is excelling at the ongoing Paralympics in Tokyo and it is currently at 38th position among the participating nations but things will further improve with another gold bagged by Indian shooter Manish Narwal.
Narwal along with Singhraj Adhana clinched medals in the P4 category of mixed 50m Pistol SH1 finals held at Asaka Shooting Range at Tokyo village on Saturday. The respective medals have further increased the medal tally of India and gone to prove the shooting heroics of the country at the Tokyo Paralympics.
But another reason why it was a matter of huge celebration was that not only did he win gold but also create a Paralympic record with 218.2 points. Singhrak was bagged silver with a two-point deficit having scored 216.7 points.. The third position saw the Russian Paralympic Committee’s (RPC) Sergey Malyshev in the event.
It was all the last-minute heroics that led the 19-year-old to victory as it was Singhraj who was leading at the earlier stages. The first 10 shots projected Singhraj to be in contention for gold while Manish had finished seventh with a very jittery start with only 87.2 points to the total.
But the youngster has nerves of steel to come back stronger in the final event having scored when it was required the most. By the 19th shot, the talented shooter grabbed first place from Singhrah having aimed for an unprecedented 10.8 and 10.5. The two Indians continued to fight for the first place and in the end, it was Manish Narwal who came victorious.
It was a sight to behold watching the two compatriots compete for gold, which has revealed that the first two positions on the podium will be occupied by the same country. It was indeed a historic moment for the country as well as the shooting unit, who have been showing great will and resilience at the ongoing games.
Earlier Avani Lekhara also won her second medal at the Paralympics in the 50m Rifle 3 position SH1 category, making her the first Indian woman to do so. She had previously won gold at 10m air rifle standing, also the first gold for any Indian woman.
