Sanju Samson hammered a splendid 42-ball 85 but it was Rahul Tewatia’s inconceivable innings of 53 runs out of 31 balls that helped Rajasthan Royals win a record-breaking score of 224.
The historical run chase at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday witnessed great innings by Rahul Tewatia, Sanju Samson, and Steve that helped Rajasthan Royals triumph over Kings XI Punjab.
However, the match didn’t seem like an easy win for RR, after 15 overs. They had only 140/2 on the board and required 84 off the last 30 balls. Sanju Samson was hitting the ball hard and made 64 off 35, however, Rahul Tewatia was in a huge pressure to score big runs initially as he was unable to connect the ball.
However, Tewatia, said he kept his cool and had faith in himself, and once he hit a six off Sheldon Cottrell, there was no stopping then, he slammed five sixes in the 18th over.
Sanju Samson stated, “All credit goes to our mentor Andrew McDonald and Zubin (Cricket Director)… We have been working laboriously on Rahul Tewatia. He’s an appropriate leg-spinner and the administration sort of observed the batting capacities he has, in the training match. So they chose to send him up the batting order. It was a truly courageous move and Tewatia made all of us proud,” He added.
Captain of Rajasthan Royals, Steve Smith also contributed a great knock of 50 off 27 for the team; however, the two budding Indian players stole the show in Sharjah.
