“Terrible things were written about me,” said Bedi while talking about a relationship with Praveen Babi

Through his upcoming memoir, vetran actor Kabir Bedi has opened up about his relationship with late actor Parveen Babi. He talked in length about their relationship and also said that the media played the whole scenario in a way that puts the entire blame on him for what had happened to Babi. 

The book is called ‘Stories I Must Tell: The Emotional Journey of An Actor’. He has talked about his journey in the Hindi movie industry and how his relationships have changed his image in front of the audience. Bedi has been married thrice in his life and he talks about his personal relationship saying that when his first marriage with Protima Bedi began to crumble, sparks began to fly with Babi. 

People were anticipating how the book would make big revelations and Bedi shared a bit about it with a Bollywood news reporting side called Bollywood Hungama. He talked about her mental health to the site saying that despite the issues she was going through, he always wanted to take care of her. 

“When you love somebody, you want to take care of them. I realized late there were problems and I wanted to be her protector. I mentioned that her problems could have begun in childhood because she used to see spirits in the monuments around the house that were related to her family’s history,” he added.

While talking about the scenario, he added that when Parveen Babi was having one of the episodes, her mother talked to Mahesh Bhatt about it saying that her father used to have similar episodes. This led Bedi to ask her mother if it was genetics that was leading to such mental trauma. 

Another instance was during the riots in Ahmedabad when Parveen Babi got her first panic attack. The matron was reportedly pushing all the Muslim girls in the back of a truck and that panicked Babi. Having said that, Bedi added that it might be the first attack that we know of but she might have another attack prior to this. “It could have happened earlier, but it is the one we knew about,” said Kabir. 

He further added that the reason that he was hurt after Parveen came back to India after their separation was because Indian media made it out to be entirely Bedi’s fault in a way that he had shattered her emotionally. He added that there were terrible things written about him after Babi came back to India. 

He then added that he thought that Babi was looking to rebuild her career and that made him refrain from speaking anything about their relationship at that time.
