Telegram, the popular messaging app, is set to introduce a new feature called Stories in early July, according to CEO Pavel Durov.
This decision comes after users repeatedly requested the addition of Stories, which make up over half of all feature requests received by Telegram.
Initially the company was hesitant due to the widespread presence of Stories on several other platforms, Telegram ultimately chose to listen to its users’ demands and innovate on existing formats.
Telegram Stories will be similar to Instagram Stories and will come with a range of features on the chatting platform.
Users will have control over who can view their stories, with options to make them visible to everyone, contacts, selected individuals, or a chosen list of close friends.
Stories will be presented in a collapsible section at the top of the chat list, and users will be able to hide stories from specific contacts by moving them to the ‘Hidden’ list in their Contacts section.
The new feature will offer various photo and video editing tools, allowing users to add captions, links, and tags to their stories.
Additionally, Telegram Stories will enable simultaneous posting of content captured by both the front and rear cameras, similar to the Be-Real app.
Users will also have the flexibility to decide when their stories disappear, with options ranging from six to 48 hours.
Furthermore, Telegram will introduce the ability to save stories permanently on users’ profile pages, similar to Instagram’s Story highlights, making profiles more informative and colorful.
Another notable feature is the ability to “repost messages from channels to stories,” which will help channels gain more exposure and subscribers, facilitating the potential for viral content on Telegram.

Telegram CEO Durov mentioned that even the skeptics on the Telegram team started to appreciate the Stories feature after internal testing.
He believes that Stories will create a new buzz among Telegram users. The feature is currently in its final testing phase and is expected to be available to users in early July this year.
