Tata WPL 2024: 104 Indian, 61 Overseas Players To Be Auctenate For 30 Spots

The TATA Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024, is buzzing with excitement due to its upcoming auction. This event, held in Mumbai, is a significant occasion for the league, especially following the success of the inaugural season.

The WPL auction for 2024 is set to commence on December 9, with a total of 165 players up for grabs. These players are from five different franchises: Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, Gujarat Giants, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The pool of talent includes 104 Indian players and 61 from overseas, all eager to make their mark in this WPL league.

Mumbai Indians, who emerged victorious in the first season, are among the teams to watch as they look to reinforce their winning squad. However, each franchise has its own strategy, as seen in the retention and release lists, which give us a glimpse into their planning for the upcoming tournament.

The auction format will have a total of 30 spots to fill across the five franchises. Each team is looking to bolster their lineup with the right mix of talent and skills. The auction is not just about buying players; it’s about crafting a team that can go all the way to lift the trophy.

In terms of logistics, the WPL 2024 might follow a multi-city format, with Mumbai and Bengaluru being the front-runners for hosting the matches. This change aims to take the league to different cities, enhancing its reach and fan engagement. The anticipation is high to see if this format will be implemented.

As for the auction itself, it’s set to begin at 3 PM IST, and the excitement is palpable. Teams have their strategies ready and will be keen to secure the best talents available. The auctioneer, Mallika Sagar, is expected to lead the proceedings.

Among the players, veteran Indian cricketers like Veda Krishnamurthy and Poonam Raut, along with international stars such as England’s Danni Wyatt and South Africa’s Nadine de Klerk, are some of the prominent names in the auction. Their base prices range from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 50 lakh, indicating the high value placed on their skills and experience.
