Tata Motors to Build New Car Factory in Tamil Nadu

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin performed the foundation stone laying ceremony on September 28 for a new Tata Motors plant. The plant will be constructed in the SIPCOT complex in Panappakkam in the district of Ranipet.

It will take approximately Rs 9000 crore to put up the factory. It will make Jaguar and Land Rover cars. The plant is expected to employ 5,000 people upon its completion.

CM Stalin was present at the ceremony along with Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran and State Industries Minister TRB Rajaa. Stalin also expressed his pleasure in having Tata Motors select Tamil Nadu for their new plant. In particular, he congratulated Chandrasekaran, who is from Tamil Nadu, for managing a massive international organization.

This factory is in agreement with the memorandum signed between Tata Motors and the Government of Tamil Nadu. In the initial instance, the plant plans to manufacture at least 200,000 cars per year. This will be Tata’s second factory in South India after a plant at Dharwad in Karnataka.

More car companies are coming to Tamil Nadu. The Ford Motor Company only announced that it intends to build a factory in the state in the recent past. It could lead to the generation of between 2500 and 3000 new jobs in the coming years. Ford wants to use this Chennai plant to manufacture cars for export to different parts of the world.

As CM Stalin began the construction of yet another car factory on February 25 of this year. This one is dedicated to VinFast Auto Ltd which is an electric car manufacturing company in Vietnam. VinFast is likely to pump Rs 16,000 crore into the Tamil Nadu.
