Tamil Nadu Rains Slow, Relief Measures Strengthened by State

After days of relentless rain Chennai and northern Tamil Nadu finally saw some relief as the downpour eased on Wednesday.

Chief Minister MK Stalin assured that they are standing with residents in the hard times. They are providing support to those affected families in the heavy rainfall.

According to the local journal and newspapers free meals were offered in Amma canteens across Chennai on October 16 and 17 to help the poor and those impacted by the heavy rain.

In his post on X handle, the CM said: “Relief works are going in full swing in areas affected by heavy rains on Tuesday. The people in low-lying areas have been given shelter in relief camps and food and assistance have been given to them by the Chennai Corporation.”

The New Indian Express also confirmed the news.

The Greater Chennai Corporation also set up relief centers in low-lying areas, providing shelter and food to displaced families to face this hard situation.

The India Meteorological Department reported that the depression over the Bay of Bengal is now 360 km east-southeast of Chennai and is expected to make landfall between Puducherry and Nellore early on October 17.

Though heavy rains lashed parts of the state earlier, the situation improved by late Tuesday evening, offering residents a much-needed break.
