Taliban Bans Women From Open Restaurants, Gyms And Parks

Earlier Afghan women were banned from gyms & parks. Now they have also been banned from open restaurants after the Talibani’s administration order.

The United Nations has also asked Afghan employees to stay home until May after the female worker ban. Taliban had barred Afghan women from work for the global organizations.

The Taliban’s most recent act of repression is forbidding families and women from dining in restaurants in Herat province that include gardens or other outdoor areas.

Afghan government representatives claim that the change was made as a result of gender mixing or because certain women are supposedly not covering their hair & face.

According to Baz Mohammad Nazir, a deputy official with the Ministry of Vice and Virtue in Herat, the Taliban forces have only forbidden women from entering establishments with green spaces, like a park, where men and women might interact. Despite this, men are welcome to dine in the outside seating area.

The Taliban have implemented a number of limitations since seizing power in Afghanistan in August of 2021, and this is just the most recent. Following extraordinary national economic, financial, and humanitarian difficulties, the humanitarian situation has worsened.

The Taliban destroyed the framework for combating gender-based violence, put up additional roadblocks to women’s access to healthcare, prevented women’s assistance workers from carrying out their duties, and restricted their fundamental rights. 

The Taliban also prohibited women from going to the gym and barred them from attending schools past the sixth grade. They also prohibited women from attending universities and most other types of employment, including jobs at the UN.

The Taliban’s decision to forbid Afghan women from working for the UN in Afghanistan was denounced by the UN Secretary-General. According to the UN, this is a violation of the inalienable fundamental rights of women.

Additionally, it stated that the restriction goes against the non-discrimination principle and Afghanistan’s commitments under international human rights law. The Taliban has also made it illegal for women to work for NGOs.

Women are not permitted to hold positions of authority in the nation, and they are not permitted to work or travel without a male companion.

The Taliban committed to restoring all schools on March 23 this year, but they instead closed secondary schools for girls on that day.
