Taiwanese Telecom Giant: The Taiwanese company Wistron, that is responsible for making I-phones in India, is planning to put a break on its expansion plans. It seems to have smelled out an internal plot of conspiracy. The company that was planning to employ an additional 13000 employees has unearth a plot for robbery by the employees itself.
Of the current force of 12000 employees, only 1200 are permanent staff members. The employees have already been in a violent altercation with the management in the past few weeks.
The Taiwanese technology giant Wistron Corporation’s has a massive plant in Narsapura, Kolar district in the state near Bengaluru, that manufactures Apple iPhones apart from other IoT products.
The employees turned violent when they were not paid due overtime and arrears from last month’s pay. Number of shifts have also been reduced making it difficult for employees to make ends meet. The Karnataka government has condemned violent measures used by the employees but have also reassured that they would get their dues.
Meanwhile, the Wistron management has not given any clear reason to the delay in payment of salaries to their working staff. Last month, carmaker Toyota Kirloskar Motor had to shut down its Bidadi plant in the state after around 1,200 employees went on strike over the suspension of a staff member who is a workers’ Union member. The standoff still continues as the issue has still not been resolved.
India has a strong system of trade unions. This has been a practice to protect the rights of the workers. Most multinationals have found it difficult to mitigate their way through worker unions in India. Unclear work and safety protocols, lack of communication, delayed payment of salaries are common grievances that leave most poor workers enraged resorting to violence or mass strikes.
