Sushant Singh Rajput’s Death Sparked Movement Against Nepotism In Bollywood

Last updated on July 25th, 2023 at 11:14 am

In a tragic event that unfolded in June 2020, the untimely demise of Sushant Singh Rajput, a talented actor and a perennial outsider in Bollywood, set off shockwaves across the country.

This tragic incident not only created nationwide sorrow but also ignited a powerful movement against nepotism within the Indian film industry.

However the police has confirmed that Sushant’s death was due to suicide. But most of the people called it a conspiracy and murder. His loyal fans and relatives still demand justice.

Fast forward to 2023, and the momentum of this movement against favoritism and the promotion of talent and merit continues unabated.

Following Sushant Singh Rajput’s passing, voices from within Bollywood, including artists like Manoj Bajpayee and Kangana Ranaut, expressed their anger and frustration.

However, the fight for justice for Rajput has since evolved into a larger battle against the pervasive issue of nepotism in the film industry.

Anger against nepotism in Bollywood has persisted, as evidenced by the ongoing flood of furious reactions on social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter.

Hashtags like #JusticeforSushantSinghRajput and #KaranJoharBully dominates the trending topics, reflecting the prevailing public sentiment.

Furthermore, social media users are now actively advocating for the boycott of movies featuring certain actors and artists associated with nepotism, including Salman Khan, Karan Johar, Sonam Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and many other star-kids.

What distinguishes this movement is the unprecedented level of anger directed towards nepotism in Bollywood. Leading production giants and established Bollywood figures typically remain unaffected by public outrage.

However, the current scenario is starkly different. The decline in the popularity and following of top Bollywood names is now a documented reality, signaling a significant shift in public opinion.

Meanwhile, in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur Court, advocate Sudhir Kumar Ojha has filed a case against six prominent Bollywood personalities, including Karan Johar, Aditya Chopra, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Sajid Nadiadwala, Salman Khan, and Ekta Kapoor.

The case has been registered under sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 109, 504 (intentional insult), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.

The conversation surrounding the toll the film industry can take on individuals is also gaining momentum. National Award-winning filmmaker Apurva Asrani highlighted the lack of support for Sushant Singh Rajput during his struggles, despite an outpouring of sympathy after his demise.

Asrani emphasized the existence of a nexus between powerful industry insiders and the press, where achievements are often ignored or undermined for those who dare to be outspoken or refuse to succumb to sycophancy.

With prominent voices like Asrani adding to the narrative, resentment towards celebrated Bollywood figures continues to grow.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic death has undeniably transformed Bollywood, with the movement against nepotism still thriving as the outrage shows no signs of dissipating anytime soon.
