Sunil Chhetri, the captain of the Indian football team, scored two goals against the Kyrgyz Republic in the Tri-Nation tournament final in Mumbai to move up to sixth place among all goal scorers in the annals of international football.

But shortly before the break, Chhetri equalized for India with a fantastic free-kick that soared past the goalie and into the far right corner of the goal.

Both teams had numerous chances in the second half, but Chhetri once again proved to be the difference maker by scoring his second goal of the game in the 69th minute.

In order to give India the lead, he gently slid the ball past the Kyrgyz goalkeeper after receiving a pass from Suresh Singh Wangjam.

The Kyrgyz Republic put some pressure on India late in the game, but India held on to win and earn their first Tri-Nation competition championship.

After the game, Chhetri expressed his admiration for his teammates’ commitment and hard effort by saying, “I’m incredibly pleased with the team.
