Sukhbir Badal: Shiromani Akali Dal leader, hit back at Bhartiya Janta Party for playing divisive politics by setting Hindus against Sikhs in Punjab to dampen their collective support for the farmers agitating against the controversial farm laws. On Tuesday, Badal said “the BJP is the real ‘tukde tukde’ gang in the country today”. He said that BJP was “splitting the country into pieces by setting one community against another. So desperate is it for power that is has no scruples in taking the communal polarisation route and setting the country aflame.”
Badal even urged the centre to drop its arrogance for the betterment of the nation and its people, with regard to its adamant attitude towards farm laws, which were passed by the parliament in September, 2020. The statement coming from SAD leader had an echoing effect as SAD was the former BJP ally in Punjab. As a mark of protest, SAD leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal had also resigned as Union minister.
SAD leader shamed the ruling BJP for dividing Indians on basis of religion, caste to get their way. Highlighting on the BJP’s communal politics, Badal said if one speaks in favour of the central government, he is tagged as ‘Desh Bhakt’ and if one speaks against it, he is labelled as part of tukde tukde gang. “BJP is the real #TukdeTukdeGang in the country.”
During a media briefing in Bathinda, Sukhbir Badal said, ”The BJP first set Hindus against Muslims. Now, it is determined to replay that evil game and re-enact the same tragedy in Punjab. It is conspiring to set our peace-loving Hindu brethren in Punjab against their Sikh brethren, with whom they have shared strong bonds of blood for centuries. The BJP wants to replace those bonds of blood with bloodshed.”
Badal said the saffron party “has been resorting to dangerous conspiracy theories to sabotage the hard-earned atmosphere of peace and communal harmony just for the realisation of petty political goals”.
Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan and elsewhere have been protesting for several weeks on various border points of Delhi including Singhu and Tikri demanding complete roll back of the three farm laws. The three contested farm laws included – The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation), Act, 2020, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
Indian farmers protest is emerging as a strongest protest movement witnessed by the current era against the government’s push favouring capitalist forces. The country’s agricultural community believed that these newly introduced legislations favoured big corporations, leaving vulnerable farmers in a weaker spot. Modi government’s inability to take any definitive stand over the issue of Minimum Support Price (MSP) made farmers more anxious as it left more room to alter things in future.
