Students stage massive protest against Railway exam results; They blocked roads and burned tyres

Several protesters on Friday blocked roads and burned tyres in Patna alleging discrepancies in railway recruitment examinations. The protest was organized by student-backed groups and political parties at Rajendra Nagar Terminal in Patna over disparities in the railway examination.

They alleged irregularities in the Railway Recruitment Board’s Non-Technical Popular Categories (RRB-NTPC) examination process.

Reportedly, train services were disrupted in many parts of Bihar because of the protest. According to ANI, protestors blocked the Kolkata-New Delhi main railway line Bihar Sharif station. A total of five trains originating from Rajendra Nagar Terminal were stopped for the day because the protestors squatted on the tracks. A passenger train was set on fire and another was attacked with stones.

They protested at the terminal in Patna on Monday evening. However, police officers and district administration came to clear the protest at around 10 pm.

According to a report published by the Hindustan Times, the students were protesting against the government’s move to hold two exams. The students claimed that the RRB notification issued in 2019 said that there will be only one examination. They accused the authorities of playing with the future of the candidates. Subsequently, the Ministry of Railways issued a clarification. The ministry claimed that the second stage of the exam was mentioned in the 2019 notification. Reportedly, a committee has been formed to examine the issues faced by the candidates.

The incident took place after famous YouTuber and coaching class teacher, Khan Sir incited students for violence. He was also booked among others for inciting students for violence.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also addressed the press on this matter. He said, “I urge the candidates to put forth their grievances formally. We intend to resolve this issue quickly.” Ashwini Vaishnaw further urged job aspirants not to destroy public property and assured them that their grievances would be resolved soon.
