Stellantis Aims to Transform India into an EV Export Hub

Stellantis, the global automotive powerhouse behind renowned brands like Jeep and Citroen, is charting a strategic course to establish India as a hub for exporting electric vehicles (EVs), particularly targeting Southeast Asian markets. This move underscores Stellantis aims to transform India, competitiveness and aligns with the country’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. The company has kickstarted this initiative with the export of 500 units of its Made in India ‘E-C3′ electric car to Indonesia, with plans to expand to other markets like Nepal and Bhutan. Stellantis’ decision to make India an EV export hub is strategic, driven by the country’s cost competitiveness and its commitment to ‘Make in India.’ Aditya Jairaj, CEO & MD of Stellantis India, emphasizes the company’s dedication to the government-led initiative and its focus on increasing the adoption of sustainable transportation. Stellantis, formed after the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group, currently sells Jeep and Citroen brands in India, with a focus on competitiveness and leveraging India as a ‘best cost country.’

Exporting the E-C3 and Future Plans:

The export of the E-C3 marks a significant milestone for Stellantis in India. Jairaj highlights plans to expand EV exports to other Southeast Asian markets, where EV acceptance is high. While specific locations are yet to be announced, Stellantis is evaluating various regions in India for EV exports. The company’s export strategy also extends to conventional engine vehicles, with the Citroen brand being exported to multiple markets, including Africa and Southeast Asia.
