Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan unveiled a massive 108-foot statue of the Hindu saint Adi Shankaracharya in the temple town of Omkareshwar.
This statue will be known as ‘Ekatmata Ki Pratima’ or ‘Statue of Oneness.’ It is a tribute to the legacy and teachings of the great Hindu sage Adi Shankaracharya.
Adi Shankaracharya is a revered figure in Hinduism, known for his philosophical and spiritual contributions in the world.
He is very well-known for his explanation on the ‘Brahma Sutra Bhasya’. It’s a foundational text of the Vedanta school of Hinduism that describes the concept of Oneness.
The statue is located atop the marvelous Mandhata hill beside the Narmada River. It stands on a 54-foot-high pedestal, reaching a total height of 108 feet. It’s a unique statue worldwide as it depicts Adi Shankaracharya in a walking posture.
The project was conceptualized under the guidance of the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC) and Acharya Shankar Sanskritik Ekta Nyas.

It is designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, including strong winds and earthquakes, with an estimated lifespan of around 500 years.
This monumental statue was part of a larger project worth over 2,100 crore rupees sanctioned by the Madhya Pradesh government. It reflects India’s cultural and spiritual heritage and is a symbol of unity and oneness.
Adi Shankaracharya’s journey from Kerala to Omkareshwar is a very important part of the history. He traveled over 1600 kilometers through forests and gained enlightenment in Omkareshwar.
His teachings and efforts are credited with uniting various sects and elements within India’s spiritual landscape during a time of cultural separation in the 9th century.
The inauguration of the statue was postponed for 3 days to September 21 due to heavy rains in the region. It was originally planned for September 18.
This cultural and spiritual project aims to promote the idea of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “The world is one family,” as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It represents the rich heritage of India’s diverse spiritual traditions and honors the teachings of Adi Shankaracharya.
Some religious literature is also being published. The administration has also plans for a foundation-laying ceremony for Advait Lok.
Advait Lok is a corridor in the path of Mahakal Lok at the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain. Additionally, there is a high chance that a museum will also be built in the location, dedicated to Adi Shankaracharya’s life.
