SRH’s Win Over LSG Fueled On-field Drama: Sanjiv Goenka & KL Rahul is in Spotlight

Yesterday on 8th May, we saw that the IPL match between SRH and LSG ended in just 9.4 overs. In this match, SRH defeated LSG by 10 wickets at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday. Although the match ended with a defeat for IPL team Lucknow Super Giants, the defeat brought with it widespread outrage, immediate reactions, opinions, and disappointment. After this defeat, Lucknow Super Giants’ chances of making the IPL 2024 playoffs were dealt a huge blow.

But the reactions of LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka and LSG captain KL Rahul after the match caught everyone’s attention.

After the match, the LSG captain said he was “at a loss for words”…

SRH won the match by a huge margin which is the biggest margin in T20 cricket with a target of more than 150 runs.

After the match, KL Rahul admitted that he was at a loss for words after seeing the batting performance of SRH openers. KL Rahul politely praised SRH’s batting and is getting support from the fans because of his calm behavior after the match.

LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka’s reaction is drawing sharp reactions, cricket fans do not like it at all!

There is a beauty in cricket, the beauty of defining victory or defeat on the field. Nothing personal and nothing will go off the ground. IPL is an occasion when players from different nationalities play for one team with high motivation towards the game.

So this is not the first time that a team has tasted defeat on the field, however, this match can decide the playoff standings.

Why we are taking this here? You will be surprised that after the match the video of the talk between Sanjiv Goenka and KL Rahul heated the arguments and debates on social media.

Not much is known about the incident, but according to media sources and the footage circulated in the video, owner Sanjiv Goenka was very unhappy in that video and said something to KL Rahul in the middle of the field, Goenka looked animated, while Rahul Listened to him calmly.

It all happened in front of the cameras and then the experts expressed their views in the official broadcaster’s studio.

On the Jio Cinema, the person from the studio elaborated and said, “It’s an owner that is very passionate about his team. He’s watched his team take an absolute drubbing. The emotions are all there. But you always feel these conversations should be happening behind closed doors. There are so many cameras around the stadium and they miss nothing. You know KL Rahul is now gonna go to press conferences and other things and potentially explain what’s been discussed here”

Another spokesperson who was Scott Styris the former cricketer of New Zealand also added his comment on the discussion between KL Rahul and  LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka  “He has done well to keep his cool here. I think you are bang on”.

But apart from the spokespersons, many users started criticizing Goenka for his rude and unprofessional behavior with the team players. KL Rahul fans are disappointed with Goenka’s behavior with Rahul on the field.

Fans are using social media platforms to share their disappointment, we are taking you to platform X where one user shared his emotional thoughts by supporting LSG captain KL Rahul and showed disappointment towards the Owner:

Another user tweeted expressing his disappointment with the response of the LSG owner. He showed that this behavior was pathetic. Angry fans asked Rahul to leave the team for the next season and join another team.

After the video went viral, many comments revealed that the owner feels that he knows more than the staff, coach, and players. Commentators also said that this should not be done on the field.

These are some of the tweets, but many tweets are flooding the platform where fans are showing support for KL Rahul and commenting that Sanjeev Goenkar’s aggressive behavior is spoiling the IPL reputation. KKR lost many times, the world never saw owner Shahrukh Khan jumping on the ground in anger, RCB never won the IPL trophy, yet their owner never showed any kind of pressure.

We don’t know exactly what transpired between the LSG captain and the IPL team owner, but as we analyze the comments and videos, our take is this “It is true that KL Rahul made mistakes in that he did not make any effort to score runs during the powerplay, the pace was very slow but that does not mean that one can scold him in the middle, even if he owns it. Rahul played the match according to his team’s strategy and yesterday his strategy failed. We have to accept the situation and move forward. Creating drama on the cricket field is not acceptable at all.”
