Spotify Unveils Major Redesign Home Screen With Vertical Feed

Spotify has redesigned its home screen with endless vertical scrolling feeds like Instagram. Spotify also updated its discovery feeds, Smart Shuffle for playlists.

Spotify, the popular music streaming service recently completed its Stream On event.

The company revealed new features at the event, including a vertical scrolling feed, smart shuffle mode, and more, in addition to a revamped home screen.

Spotify has been exploring methods to display podcasts and music simultaneously for years, but without success.

The most recent update, though, aims to make Spotify more than just a music player. Spotify users will soon have access to a new feature that allows them to scroll vertical feeds, just like on TikTok and Instagram.

While playlists and albums will still be visible at the top of the home screen, if you go to the “Music” or “Podcasts and Shows” section, the app will display a vertical scrolling feed made to make finding music and podcasts easier.

Additionally, users will be able to scroll endlessly through the automatically playing feed and tap on any item to get a description or save it for later.

Users can preview an album, a single track, or an entire playlist by clicking on the card in the new feed, which combines audio and video content.

When it comes to albums, Spotify allows users to listen to up to 5 tracks in advance to get a sense of the recommendations they are receiving.

Similar to how the feature functions on Instagram, Spotify will let you scroll through the suggestion feed while playing music.

The company claims that vertical scrolling will also be applied to audiobook feeds. Speaking of playlists, the algorithm has been enhanced by the developers, and a new feature called “Smart Shuffle” has been added.

This feature expands on the idea of the “Just for you” playlist by automatically adding songs to your current playlist. However, only Premium subscribers currently have access to Smart Shuffle.

It turns out that the new vertical feed will also be available through the ‘Search’ page and is not just for the home screen.

The new feature provides recommendations based on subscriber preferences, much like how Spotify takes into account user interests and recommendations.
