Speaker Om Birla Denies Muting Rahul Gandhi’s Mic Amid NEET Leak Controversy

The Congress party has accused the Lok Sabha Speaker of muting Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s microphone when he brought up the NEET paper leak issue in the parliamentary session.

Congress claimed that Rahul Gandhi’s mic was turned off as he addressed the NEET paper leak controversy in the Lok Sabha on Friday.

A video shared by the Congress on X shows Gandhi requesting Speaker Om Birla for a working microphone.

Rahul Gandhi called for a debate on the NEET issue and demanded a statement from the government.

However, Speaker Om Birla responded by saying he does not have control over MPs’ microphones.

Honorable Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said, “The discussion should focus on the President’s address. Other matters will not be recorded in the House.”

Congress expressed their frustration on the X platform: “While Narendra Modi remains silent on NEET, Rahul Gandhi is championing the youth’s cause in Parliament. But on such a critical issue, there’s a conspiracy to silence the youth by muting the microphone.”

What is the issue of NEET Exam 2024?

The NEET-UG 2024 exam for undergraduate medical programs has sparked controversy due to allegations of a question paper leak leading to nationwide student protests. In the most recent update, the CBI has arrested 2- persons from Bihar in this case.

As the Lok Sabha session began, Congress MP KC Venugopal submitted an adjournment motion to discuss the paper leak issue.

However, the Speaker stated that the House would focus on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address. Amidst the ensuing commotion, the Speaker adjourned the House until July 1.

Government sources indicated that it is not customary to introduce an adjournment motion during the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address. “The opposition’s demand is unnecessary. The government is ready to address the NEET issue,” a source said.
