The eyewitness of the Sagar Rana murder case Sonu Mahal has talked to one of the leading publications about the series of events that led to scuh an extreme outcome. This is the same murder case that involves celebrated wrestler Sushil Kumar, for which he was arrested by the Delhi Police.
With other wrestlers, Sonu Mahal was also present in the Chhatrasal Stadium during the brawl and hence was able to explain the whole incident to India Today. Mahal revealed that on May 5, Sushil was so angry that he kept on beating Ratna relentlessly. Sushil was reportedly angry at Sagar as he kept on taking 50-60 wrestlers from Chhatrasal to Nagloi.
Nangloi is the place where a coach at Chhatrasal Stadium has set up his base after he was kicked out by Sushil Kumar. Kumar was apparently not happy with the coaching of Virendra and hence was looking to get a new coach to the base. On May4-5, he got extremely upset and had taken five people along with him to keep Sagar as hostage, said the eyewitness.
Kumar was looking for Sagar for a long time and on May 4, the henchman of Sushil and Neeraj Bawana picked two boys from outer Delhi area and kept them hostage in a car. They were tortured by Sushil till they gave the address of Sagar and Sonu’s flat.
Sonu also added, “I and Sagar were sitting in our rented room when 30 to 40 people, who were with Sushil, came to our room and took us downstairs at gunpoint and forced us to sit in a car, in which Sushil was already present.”
Sonu hinted that Sushil was jealous of Sagar as he was improving really fast and was one of the most promising wrestlers of Indian Wrestling time. The issue seemingly escalated last year when Sagar got a different arena for himself by approaching higher authorities and when he left, 40 other disciples of Sushil also left along with him.
Following the event, he wanted to take revenge and prove his metal to all the wrestlers. Sagar used to live in Sushil’s wife’s flat which he left long back so that the two wrestlers came in less contact with each other. As per Sonu, Sagar was trying to avoid any brews with the Olympian as he knew he was resourceful.
“Sushil has always been indulged in hooliganism and vandalism. He is even in contact with numerous gangsters, including Bhatti and Lawrence Bishroi. Sushil was even friends with Kala Jethari, who is my cousin’s brother,” said Sonu Mahal.
Sonu has also suffered injuries due to Sushil Kumar and his associates. His hand was broken in the fight while Sagar died at the hands of Sushil Kumar.
