Music composer, singer and songwriter Anu Malik is under scanner after he has been identified for copying the Israeli national anthem and making it into a popular Bollywood song from a 1996 movie.
The composer is being called out on social media for plagiarizing Israel’s national anthem titled Hatikvah for Ajay Devgan’s 1996 movie Diljale. The song ‘Mera Mulk Mera Desh’ has the exact same tune as the national anthem. People seemed to have noticed the tune when one of the gymnasts of Israel was at the podium and the national anthem was played.
It was only a matter of seconds that people quickly identified with the songs and found out that it was Malik who had plagiarized the song and since then, trolls have barely spared a breath for the composer. In the now viral clip, people not only figured that the 61-year-old had copied the music but also blamed him for plagiarism in the past as well.
This was only the second gold medal for Israel, making it all the more special so the clip was as it is popular when the gymnast stepped up for the national anthem. But in India, people felt sorry for gymnasts who had to be part of this popularised culture of music plagiarism.
Hatikvah was composed during the 19th century and was adopted as the national anthem of Israel in 1948. Many took to Twitter to express their disappointment on knowing what the closer has done.
One of the users blamed the whole Bollywood community for such acts saying that this is another example how artists in the industry plagiarize other works.
Another user said that while this was a celebration for Israelies because of the second medal, Indians ended the whole celebration by bringing the Anu Malik angle to it.
