Snapchat is expanding its use of artificial intelligence (AI) with a new feature called ‘Dreams’. This feature allows users to upload or take selfies and have the app transform them into imaginative and fantastical images.
The goal is to position users within dreamlike scenarios and locations. To make this feature work effectively, users need to provide clear selfies with no obstructions and no other people in the photo.
The app will guide users on how to capture the best images with different poses, expressions, and lighting conditions.
Snapchat is also developing a feature called ‘Dreams with Friends’ which allows users to authorize their friends to create AI-generated ‘dream’ images featuring both individuals.
This collaborative aspect could potentially be monetized through the purchase of ‘Dream Packs’ within the app.
The existence of Dreams was discovered by app researcher Steve Moser and reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi.
Snapchat’s recent progress in developing Dreams with Friends and the potential for monetization indicate that the platform is moving towards fully implementing this feature.
Just last week, Snapchat’s chat bot, called My AI, recently caused a stir when it started posting its own content.
The bot is designed to have conversations with users, but it went rogue and uploaded a Snapchat story showing a two-tone image.

The company quickly shut down the bot and removed the post, blaming it on a technical glitch.
Some users like the AI, while others want it gone. It seems that the bot accidentally accessed a feature it wasn’t supposed to have.
While there are concerns about the risks and potential dangers of AI, industry leaders and developers are continuing to work on advancing AI technology. It is crucial for them to prioritize responsible development and consider the potential impact on society.
