In a recent session of the Bihar state assembly, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a vulgar speech about how educating women can help with population control.
But during his talk, he went into explicit detail about how an educated woman might approach family planning. This caused discomfort among several attendees, particularly women MLAs, and quickly became a subject of intense discussion.
Last month, Bihar CM and his ruling party were also in the controversy due to the caste-based survey. They were deeply criticized for this.
Tejashwi Yadav, the Deputy Chief Minister, defended him, insisting that the Chief Minister’s remarks were actually about the need for sex education.
A political leader should not defend another minister, just because they belong to a common political party or alliance. Yes, CM Nitish was talking about sex education, but his speech was too vulgar. It seems both ministers have a similar understanding.
The language used by Nitish Kumar was totally inappropriate, his comments were full of explicitness. It discomforted the entire assembly, including several political figures and women’s groups.
There are high demands for an apology from Nitish Kumar, not just to the women of Bihar but to the whole country, because his position as Chief Minister holds great influence and responsibility.
The comments made in a public forum like the state assembly have a wide-reaching impact. Such remarks are disrespectful and diminish the dignity of women, setting a negative example for the country.
A Chief Minister must maintain the manners & respect of all citizens. The expectation is that a leader at such a high level should communicate with sensitivity and caution, especially on topics as sensitive as women’s education and population control.
Such positions demand a high level of professionalism and the ability to discuss important issues without resorting to language that be construed as vulgar or disrespectful.

It’s important for political leaders to remember the impact of their words and to strive to communicate their ideas in ways that respect the dignity of all individuals involved.
The responsibilities come with leadership and the need for public talks and speeches that are both constructive and respectful. If they can’t maintain that respect and manners, they don’t deserve to be in such positions.
