Shillong To Get India’s 1st Centre of Excellence For Online Gaming

India Startup Hub is going to establish India’s first Centre of Excellence for online gaming in Shillong by March, 2023, through the Software Technology Parks.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, said that the first Center of Excellence for online gaming in India would be established in Shillong.

By March 2023, Digital India Startup Hub will establish India’s first Center of Excellence in Online Gaming in Shillong further through Software Technology Parks of India.

The Next Gen Online Gaming ecosystem is intended to be built by startups and business owners with the help of the Centre of Excellence in Shillong, Meghalaya.

In an interview with journalists on Friday in Shillong, Chandrasekhar was cited as saying, “It is the vision of PM Shri Narendra Modi ji that the next wave of startups and entrepreneurs must come from Shillong, Kohima and other parts of the Northeast.”

In view of the continued global expansion in the digitalization of goods, services, and gadgets, the minister again emphasized the need for digital skills post-Covid.

Online gaming-related Draft modifications to the IT Rules 2021 have recently been made available for public comment by the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY).

The ministry also published draft revisions to the IT intermediary rules for 2021 that address online gaming for public comment.

The draught has been created to make sure that online game consumers are protected from any harm and that game offerings comply with Indian legal requirements.

The draft suggested a self-regulatory structure that, in the future, might also monitor online game material and make sure that the games don’t feature violent, addictive, or sexual content.

The age gating is now set at 18, and the government aims to maintain that level while evaluating the effectiveness of the current framework for fostering innovation in the online gaming industry while maintaining user safety and trust.

Regarding safety worries, the minister had previously stated that between 40 and 45 percent of gamers in India are female, making it all the more crucial to maintain the gaming industry’s safety.
