Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed visits India for Bilateral talks

The Indian Minister of External Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, met with H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The two ministers met in New Delhi to explore ways to advance the long-standing ties between the UAE and India within the context of their mutually beneficial comprehensive strategic relationship.

They also talked about how the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which their nations signed in 2022, might be used to strengthen bilateral trade and economic ties. Given the importance of the health and technology sectors as engines for the two nations’ developmental aspirations, the summit also looked at ways to strengthen their cooperation in these fields.

Sheikh Abdullah and Jaishankar discussed a number of topics of shared interest as well as the most recent events in the local and international scenes.

The meeting also discussed ways to improve the UAE’s participation in the Group’s activities as a guest nation for the second consecutive year, as well as ways to increase the contributions of the private sectors in both countries to the G20’s activities, given the sector’s crucial role in advancing sustainable development. India will serve as the G20’s president in 2023.

In addition, they discussed the potential for cooperation between the UAE and India at the level of multilateral groups and organisations, including the I2U2 Group and BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), as well as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Sheikh Abdullah emphasised that the leaderships of the UAE and India have strong, long-standing connections, and that their collaboration has produced many successes that support sustainable development in the two nations.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah continued, “In line with the UAE-India CEPA, we are seeking to strengthen our economic cooperation to achieve our ambitious goal of increasing our non-oil trade value to roughly US$100 billion in the coming five years.

He emphasised that the many achievements made possible by UAE-India relations are the results of their leaders’ ideas to create a model of partnership and collaboration that leads the globe and fosters sustainable economic growth and prosperity.

Sheikh Abdullah emphasised his enthusiasm to see his nations’ collaboration and multilateral efforts begin a new, profitable chapter that would help elevate their position both locally and internationally.

The UAE is eager to increase its participation in the G20 during India’s presidency, and it supports the involvement of the private sector in the group’s work, he continued.

Following the meeting, Jaishankar hosted a luncheon for H.H. Sheikh Abdullah and the delegation he was travelling with.

Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, the minister of state for international cooperation, Dr. Abdul Nasser Al Shaali, the ambassador of the UAE to India, Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, the assistant foreign minister for economic and trade affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC), and Omran Anwar Sharaf Al Hashemi, the assistant minister for advanced sciences and technology affairs at MoFAIC, were all present at the meeting.
