Sharad Pawar Steps Down As NCP President. Who Will Succeed Him?

The founder & chief of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Sharad Pawar has announced during a book launch, that he is resigning from the post of NCP President.

Sharad Pawar, the president of the National Congress Party (NCP), announced on Tuesday that he would be resigning from the position.

Pawar announced his decision at a book launch for his autobiography at the Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan here, which was met with opposition from NCP workers and leaders.

He declared that he has decided to step down as the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party. Pawar also appointed a group of top party figures to strategize future moves.

However, Pawar was asked to reverse his decision by party members and leaders. They promised to stay put till he changed his mind.

Pawar, a four-time chief minister of Maharashtra who also held the positions of minister of defense and of agriculture for the federal government, played a key role in bringing together an unlikely alliance of the NCP, Congress, and the Shiv Sena, an ideological rival, to form the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government following the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections.

One of the main opposition figures in the nation, Mr. Pawar was instrumental in bringing together the Shiv Sena, Congress, and NCP to establish the Maha Vikas Aghadi administration in Maharashtra.

As of now, it has not been disclosed who is going to succeed him as party leader.

The news that Mr. Pawar’s nephew Ajit Pawar, a former deputy chief minister, is coming up to the BJP has fueled speculation about his impending move.

Additionally, Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule had warned of “two big political explosions” in the following 15 days precisely 15 days prior.

The BJP previously declared that it would “welcome” Ajit Pawar if he decided to leave the party. The BJP is apparently looking for a partnership to increase its support in Maharashtra.
