Shabana Azmi, an Indian actor, shared her opinions on the attacks and claims made by another Hindi movie actor, Kangana Ranaut.
She called the attacks outrageous and added that now the Manikarnika actor has started believing in her own lies. The vetran actor told in an interview to Mumbai Mirror that even though Ranaut is one of those actors in the industry who taught feminism and nationality to Bollywood but she has started to get scared of the time when she is no more in the news.
Azmi added that the Queen actor should do what she is best at, which is acting. According to her, Bollywood has no protection right now. While talking about the saga that took place after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, she said that it is easy to make malicious accusations.
The actor also pointed out on how the discussion has shifted from mental health to Bollywood using drugs. It is a systematic attempt to divert attention from deeper issues such as falling economy, border tensions with China, increasing number of coronavirus cases, the country wide agitation of farmers to Bollywood drug scandal.
Last few days have seen not only Azmi but other actors coming out and speaking against the attacks of Kangana Ranaut. Recently actor and Alia Bhat’s mother, Soni Razdan, slammed Ranaut on questions the AIIMS reports that stated that Rajput’s death was due to the suicide and there was no poisioning found in his body.
Razdan took a strong stance after Kangana tweeted the AIIMS reports saying, “Young and extraordinary individuals don’t just wake up one fine day and kill themselves. Sushant said he was being bullied and outcast, he feared for his life, he said movie mafia banned him and harassed him, he was mentally affected by being falsely accused of rape #AIIMS. Why was Mahesh Bhatt doing his psychoanalysis?”
Soni Razdan, in response to this, said that Ranauat should not demonise mental health. She did not name Ranaut but the tweet made it clear that it was in response to the latter’s tweet.
“For those saying that ‘people don’t suddenly wake up one morning and kill themselves’ … No they don’t. And that is the whole point. They suffer for many years and struggle long and hard before sometimes sadly just needing to opt for an out.”
In his statement, Sudhir Gupta, leading the re-evaluation said that there was no marks found in the body other than hanging.
