Sengol To Be Installed In New Parliament Building, Represents New India

The inauguration of the new Parliament building will be attended by 25 political parties including AIADMK, Apna Dal, RPI, Shiv Sena, NPP, NPF, and others.

The head priest of Madurai Adheenam, Sri Harihara Desika Swamigal will present the historic scepter ‘Sengol’  to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 28th May, during the inauguration of the new Parliament building.

Sri Harihara Desika Swamigal expressed his belief that PM Modi should return as Prime Minister in 2024, citing his global recognition and positive actions for the people.

The ‘Sengol’ holds significant historical value as it was originally handed over to India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, by the British to mark the transfer of power from British to India. It will be installed near the Speaker’s chair in the new Parliament building.

The inauguration ceremony is planned to take place in two phases. The initial phase will commence with a ritual near Gandhi’s statue in Parliament.

PM Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, and senior ministers will participate in the ceremony. 

Following the ritual, the dignitaries will examine the premises of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha chambers.

The installation of the ‘Sengol’ will be accompanied by a ritual conducted by priests from Tamil Nadu, including the original jeweler who designed it. After the first phase concludes around 9:30 am, the second phase will commence at noon. 

During this phase, Deputy Rajya Sabha Chairman Hariwansh will deliver a speech and read out written congratulatory messages on behalf of Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar and President Droupadi Murmu.

PM Modi will release a commemorative coin and stamp to mark the historic occasion. He will also deliver a speech, followed by the Vote of Thanks delivered by the Secretary-General of Lok Sabha, concluding the ceremony.

Notable figures such as chief architect Bimal Patel, industrialist Ratan Tata, film stars, and sports personalities have been invited to attend the event. 

Around 25 political parties, including AIADMK, Apna Dal, Republican Party of India, Shiv Sena’s Shinde faction, NPP, and NPF among others, have confirmed their participation.

The installation of the ‘Sengol’ symbolizes the historical significance of the new Parliament building and reinforces the cultural heritage and democratic values of India. 

The present and installation of Sengol also represent the transfer of power from slavery mindset to the new powerful India.
