‘Terrorism in any form can’t be justified’- PM Modi Condemns Terrorism at SCO Summit

In a powerful statement at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State Summit in Astana, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned terrorism and called for global isolation of countries that support terrorist activities.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delivered PM Modi’s remarks at the summit, emphasizing that terrorism in any form cannot be justified.

Jaishankar said that “Terrorism continues to be used by nations as a tool of destabilization. We have had our own experiences with cross-border terrorism. Let us be clear that terrorism in any form or manifestation cannot be justified or condoned. Harboring terrorists must be strongly condemned. Cross-border terrorism requires a decisive response and terrorism financing and recruitment must be effectively countered”.

In this summit, world leaders were present including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Jaishankar strongly stated that there is a need for a unified stance against terrorism.

He also highlighted the current global issues and geopolitical shifts. He added in his speech, “As we look ahead, there are both immediate and systemic challenges and opportunities arising from them. Even as we address those, let us be clear that the world is inexorably moving towards real multipolarity. In such a scenario, the SCO will only become more important. But its true value would depend on how well all of us cooperate amongst ourselves”.

Before the speech at the SCO summit, Jaishankar also held talks with his Chinese Wang Yi. They talked about ongoing border tensions in eastern Ladakh.

“Discussed early resolution of remaining issues in border areas. Agreed to redouble efforts through diplomatic and military channels to that end. Respecting the LAC and ensuring peace and tranquility in the border areas is essential”

Jaishankar also shared the highlights on his official X account.

The SCO summit underscores the importance of collective efforts in addressing global challenges, with terrorism being focus. PM Modi’s strong stance reflects India’s commitment to a secure and peaceful world.
