Saurav Ganguly confirms appointment of Rahul Dravid as coach for Sri Lanka tour

After his successful stint as coach for the under-19 Indian cricket team, Rahul Dravid has been appointed as coach for the Indian men’s cricket team for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour. Board of Control for Cricket in India president Sourav Ganguly also confirmed that Dravid will be taking over as the coach for the short series.

“Rahul Dravid will be the coach for the India tour to Sri Lanka,” said Ganaguly while talking to leading daily. The squad that is all set to head to Sri Lanka for the series has already started their 14-day institution quarantine in Mumbai.

He is not only loved and respected by his fans but the under-19 team members are also all praises for the coach. He has been working with the young lot to make a more stable future for the main team and also increase the bench strength of the team.

One of the most successful players to have come out of his wings is Shubham Gill, whose technique and playing style has brought a lot of attention from cricket experts. Recently while talking about his coach, Gill said, “He’s a kind of a coach who doesn’t like to tweak much with players’ [techniques]. He won’t go to a player and say ‘improve this in your technique’ or do this or that.”

He expressed that Dravid is a sort of coach who focuses more on tactical stuff contrary to what people expect out of him. People feel that since he was so technically sound, he would be focusing on improving techniques, but that is not the case, stressed Gill.

For the tour, the team India will be led by Shikhar Dhawan, which is a rare situation in itself. Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the other hand will be serving as his deputy for the series. The playing squad has a few changes and Hardik pandya and Krunal Padya have also managed to get a spot on the team.

Another new addition to the playing XI is Prithvi Shaw. Selection of Shaw was given after a marvelous record-breaking performance in the Vijay Hazare trophy. He was also phenomenal in the Indian Premier League, which further amplified his chances of getting a spot in the team.

As for IPL, Sourav Ganguly stressed that the issue of tax exemption is yet to be resolved and only once this matter has been taken care of, it will not be confirmed if the remaining IPL matches will be held in the UAE or India.
