Tamil Nadu DMK minister Udhayanidhi Stalin made a controversial statement comparing Sanatan Dharma (Hinduism) to diseases like dengue and malaria, saying it should be eradicated.
He also mentioned the practice of Sati, where women were forced to immolate themselves after their husbands’ deaths, and criticized child marriages. The statement caused controversy, with the BJP accusing Udhayanidhi of being anti-Hindu.
This controversial statement went viral on social media. The social media netizens responded that Udhayanidhi was trying to convince his Muslim voters by criticizing Hinduism.
Many commented that Udhayanidhi Stalin has forgotten that Islam has many more evils like Triple Talaq, Halala, Terrorism & so on. Muslim women are forced to Halala till date, they are still victimized of Triple Talaq and mens’ polygamy.
Some clarified that the practice of Sati was forced by Mughals & other invaders in India. Child marriage in Hinduism has been eradicated several decades ago.
BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad criticized Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin for his comments on Sanatana Dharma, calling them shameful.
Prasad questioned why Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Nitish Kumar, and Mamata Banerjee were silent on the matter. He accused the I.N.D.I.A alliance of potentially becoming anti-Hindu for the sake of votes.
Ravi Shankar Prasad commented, “Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remarks are condemnable and shameful. Why is Rahul Gandhi silent? Why are Mallikarjun Kharge, Nitish Kumar, Mamata Banerjee silent? Are you playing with the sentiments of Hindus for the sake of votes?”
Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remark has caused trouble for him, with senior BJP leaders launching sharp responses. A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a complaint against Udhayanidhi Stalin with Delhi Police, and Amit Malviya and other BJP leaders have criticized him, his father MK Stalin, and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma responded to Stalin’s statement by saying that he doesn’t want to condemn him because Stalin exposed himself by making the statement.
CM Sarma also questioned whether the Congress party, which is in alliance (I.N.D.I.A) with Stalin’s party, will still continue the alliance. He mentioned that Karti Chidambaram, a Congress leader, made a similar statement, and asked if the Congress will expel him from the party.
Sarma said that this is a test for Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress party, to decide whether he respects Sanatan Dharma or not.

Sarma also mentioned that he doesn’t want to debate whether Sanatan Dharma is good or bad, as it has been a part of India for thousands of years and will continue to be so.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commented, “I don’t want to join the debate about whether Sanatan is good or bad. It was there 5,000 years ago and it will remain in India till the sun and moon are there.”
