Sameer Wankhede will no more be leading the cruise drug case

Mumbai – Following allegations of bribery and manipulation of evidence, Sameer Wankede has been removed from probing the cruise drug case involving high profile names including Shahrukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan.

The case has reportedly been transferred from Mumbai zone of Narcotics Control Bureau to a special team of NCB in Delhi headquarters. It is believed that the decision to call for a team from Delhi has been taken in order to avoid any linkage of the NCB officials from the Hindi film industry or the political sphere.

On Friday, Sanjay Kumar Singh, the Deputy Director-General of NCB headquarters confirmed the same stressing on the Delhi unit taking over six cases from the Mumbai Zonal unit.

He stated, “A Special Investigation Team [SIT) comprising officers from the Operations Branch of NCB headquarters has been constituted by the NCB Director-General to take over six cases from the NCB Mumbai zonal unit, which have national and international ramifications.”

Despite various assumptions, the NCB official confirmed that the decision has been taken as there needs to be deeper investigation in the matter and the team needs to identify backward linkages to the cases revolving around the drug nexus.

Having said that, the official also emphasised that  no officer has been removed from their current position and they will continue to do the work as they have been profusely doing.  It is reiterated that the NCB functions across India as a single integrated agency,” he added.

There were various charges on Wankhede about his involvement with the Maharashtra government Minister and Nationalist Congress Party leader Nawab Malik and among the politicians. However, the Zonal director had denied those claims and went on to submit his detailed report on the matter on October 26. All the six cases that have been transferred to the Delhi unit were being investigated by Wankhede hinting at the alleged involvement. Sanjay Singh, as senior police officer, will now be leading the case of Aryan Khan as well as the one that involved Nawab Malik’s relatives.
