The trials of the world’s first coronavirus vaccine on volunteers at Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University have been effectively completed. Elena Smolyarchuk, the chief researcher at the university, told Tass news on Sunday that the research and the final results of the vaccine came out effective.
In the month of March, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced the novel coronavirus as a pandemic and cautioned all the nations to stay alert and prepare to battle it. Many nations like the UK, India, U.S., Australia, Brazil and many more have experienced a terrible surge in the number of cases since March and are still continuing to battle the virus.
The coronavirus initial symptoms are similar to flu, like; fever, cold, body ache, and sore throat, etc. However, for some people, especially elderly citizens with existing clinical issues, it can cause extreme complications, including pneumonia or organ failures. People with slight ailment are found to recover in maximum fourteen days, while critically ill people might take more than a month or need hospitalization to recover, as per the WHO.
The Sunday’s global rate of Covid-19 cases was recorded at 12,681,472, while the loss of life surging to 564,420, as indicated by the Johns Hopkins University. The US has the highest number of coronavirus cases and deaths at 3,245,158 and 134,764 while Brazil is at second position with 1,839,850 numbers of positive cases and 71,469 deaths.
The world’s first successful trial of Covid-19 immunization by Russia’s Sechenov University is a foremost and major relief for humanity. The head of the Institute for Translational Medicine and Biotechnology Vadim Tarasov told Sputnik news, that the University had started clinical trials of the Covid-19 vaccine on June 18, and on Wednesday, the first group of volunteers will be discharged from hospital and the second group will be discharged on July 20.
The volunteers will stay under clinical observation on an out-patient basis after getting discharged from the hospital.
The new coronavirus vaccine has been manufactured by Russia’s Gamalei Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology.
However, there is no further information yet on when and how soon the vaccine would be commercially available in the market. Presently, in the race to develop vaccines there are around 21 under trial, and few have reached the final human trial level, as per the WHO.
