RRR, Star Wars, Thor: Ray Stevenson passes away at 58

Ray Stevenson, known for his roles as an Asgardian warrior in the ‘Thor’ films, the villainous British governor in ‘RRR‘, and a member of the 13th Legion in ‘Rome’, passed away Sunday at the age of 58. Representatives for the prominent actor have yet to share any details of his demise.

Stevenson was born in 1964 in Northern Ireland’s Lisburn. He has three sons with Italian anthropologist Elisabetta Caraccia, whom he met while working on the small screen as the roguish Titus Pullo in HBO’s ‘Rome’.

After attending the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and working in British television for years, the actor made his film debut in the 1998 British comedy-drama ‘The Theory of Flight’, directed by Paul Greengrass from a screenplay written by Richard Hawkins.

He appeared in Antoine Fuqua’s ‘King Arthur’ in 2004, and several years later grabbed a lead role in the pre-Disney Marvel adaptation ‘Punisher: War Zone’. Although ‘Punisher’ isn’t his best-reviewed movie, he did get another taste of Marvel in the first three ‘Thor’ films.

‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation, ‘The Transporter: Refueled’, and the ‘Divergent’ trilogy are some of his other prominent roles. On the small screen, his role in ‘Rome’ really got his career going in the US and got him a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) card.

Stevenson was also known for his voice work in ‘The Clone Wars’ and ‘Star Wars Rebels’. He even has a role in the upcoming Star Wars live-action series ‘Ahsoka’ – expected to hit Disney+ in August. May his soul rest in peace forever.
