Rohit Sharma becomes the most successful IPL captain: Last night mighty Mumbai Indians made a historic statement as they won the latest edition of the Indian Premier league and retained their spot as the most successful team in the league. On this occasion Rohit Sharma, captain of the squad, said that he is not one who runs behind players to correct them.
During the post match presentation, Rohit said, “I’m not someone who’ll run with a stick behind someone. The only way you can do it is by giving them confidence. So you have to strike that right balance.” He said this when asked about what kind of a captain he is.
Rohit is known for his humbleness and this day was no different as when acknowledging every player’s role in the team he also thanked the workers who are on their toes and credited them for all the work that goes in.
He also mentions Suryakumar Yadav who sacrificed his wicket for the captain and said that the kind of form he is in, I should be the one to sacrifice the wicket and not him. “The kind of form he was in, I should have sacrificed my wicket for Surya. But throughout the tournament he has played some incredible shots.”
He also did not miss out on thanking and congratulating fans and hoped that they could play in Wankhade next year.
Delhi captain Shreyas Iyer, who led his team to finals for the first time since the inception of IPL, thanked the team’s coach saying that the amount of freedom Ricky Ponting gives is outstanding. He praised the former Australian captain saying that the way he motivates players by his team meeting or speeches is incredible.
The young squad from Delhi put up a below average target on scoreboard with 157 and when Mumbai Indians was against them, it was hardly a matter of difficulty for Rohit Sharma and co. It proved right when MI came to bat and Sharma charged of hitting 28 runs of 51 balls and newcomer Ishan Kishan was an added bonus.
Bowlers were terrific with Trent Boult taking three wickets, for which he was awarded Man of the Match trophy. This was the fifth win for the team. Starting from 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.
