Rohit Sharma Becomes 1st Indian Batsman To Score 250 Sixes In ODI

Rohit Sharma became the first Indian batsman to hit 250+ sixes in the ODI matches. He has also become the 4th most Sixes hitter in ODIs.

Rohit Sharma’s 76* consisted of 7 fours and 5 sixes, with all of them coming off his favorite pull shot during the 1st ODI game of this 3-match series

During his 76* run innings against England in the first ODI, played at the Oval in London on July 12, 2022, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma became the first Indian hitter to attain the 250 sixes record in one-day international cricket.

With Shikhar Dhawan scoring 31* and Rohit Sharma scoring 76*, which included seven fours and five sixes all from his go-to pull shot, India reached the mark of 111 in 18.4 overs. This was their 18th century partnership in ODIs.

They became the second Indian pair, after Sachin Tendulkar as well as Sourav Ganguly (6609 runs), to surpass the 5,000-run barrier for the initial partnership in ODIs.

They now have the fourth-most runs (5108 in 112 innings), with 18 century partnerships and their maximum stand being 210 runs.

Earlier, the Indian team bowled out England for 110 runs in 26 overs thanks to Jasprit Bumrah’s 6/19 and Mohammad Shami’s 3/31.

The hosts’ batting order was unable to handle the swing and seam produced by the Indian bowlers, as 4 batsmen made ducks.

The 4th Most Six Hitter In ODI Cricket

While playing in the ODI at the Oval, Rohit Sharma was frequently presented with short balls, and he managed to knock five of them into the stands.

And with these five 6s, he became the first Indian to cross the 250 sixes mark in ODI cricket.

Currently, Rohit Sharma has 250 sixes in 231 ODIs, 224 innings, 9359 runs with 29 centuries, and a 264-run greatest personal best.

With three such scores of 200 or more, he is already the only batter in ODI cricket to have scored more than one double 100s runs, and he was the second skipper after Virender Sehwag to accomplish this feat.

Additionally, he moved up to fourth place in ODI cricket history for six-hitters. Sanath Jayasuriya, a legend in Sri Lanka who played in 445 ODIs and hit 270 sixes, is listed ahead of him in third place.

Chris Gayle of the West Indies, who has hit 331 sixes in 301 ODI games, is ranked second.

The only batsman to have more than 350 sixes (351) in 398 ODI games is Pakistan’s six-hitting dynamo Shahid Afridi, who holds the top spot.
