Rohini Nilekani: India’s Most Charitable Woman Donated ₹120 Crore In FY 21-22

Rohini Nilekani, an early investor of Infosys has emerged as one of India’s most charitable women. She is also the wife of Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani.

She has been recognized as the top philanthropist on the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy Women’s List 2022.

In the year 2021-22, she generously donated a significant sum of Rs 120 crore, demonstrating her commitment to various social causes.

Most of Rohini Nilekani’s donations were directed towards initiatives focused on ecology, sanitation, and education. Her philanthropic efforts are channeled through the Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies, an organization she currently leads.

Rohini Nilekani has a diverse background. She started her career as a journalist, contributing to reputable publications. She played a pivotal role in co-founding impactful nonprofits like Pratham Books, which focuses on children’s literature, and EkStep, an educational platform.

Additionally, she established the Arghyam Foundation to promote sustainable water and sanitation initiatives in India.

Rohini’s early years were shaped by a middle-class upbringing in Bombay, India. Her academic journey led her to earn a degree in French literature from Elphinstone College.

In her personal capacity, she holds 1 equity share, as indicated in corporate records from December 31, 2022. Her net worth is estimated at over Rs. 4,878.0 crore by Trendlyne.

Notably, Rohini Nilekani’s philanthropic efforts extend beyond financial contributions. Her role in building Infosys, the tech giant co-founded by her husband Nandan Nilekani, demonstrates her dedication.
When the company was established in 1981, Rohini invested her personal funds, which amounted to ₹10,000, into the venture.

As Infosys achieved remarkable success, her financial stake in the business contributed to her personal wealth, demonstrating her astute decision-making.
