A new epic adaptation of the Indian Ramayana has been launched with the producer Namit Malhotra launching the two-movie plan. The Ramayana directed by Nitesh Tiwari will present Ranbir Kapoor in the most crucial role of Lord Ram which is one of the biggest challenges in Indian cinema. From the first look poster with a concise image of an arrow piercing through the fire sky, one can get the impression of the large-scale work, and the desire to move forward to tell a 5000 year old story.
The film has a big star cast on board now with Sai Pallavi being finalised for the role of Sita and KGF star Yash as Ravana. The supporting cast includes Sunny Deol in the role of Hanuman, while Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi and Sheeba Chaddha as Manthara. Late this year, raw photos of Ranbir and Sai in costumes that were worn during the shooting stirred up much enthusiasm among the fans as they revealed the realistic feel of the movie to the holy epic.
During DNEG and Prime Focus discussion, Yash underlined the characters as more than mere stars. The actor said that when you are working on something of such scale, it is more important to take the vision and the story, he said this pointing out that everyone on the team is working towards making the epic an adaptation of the revered story.
The first part of Ramayana is to be released on Diwali in 2026, while the second part of Ramayana is already planned for release on the next Diwali in 2027. Producer Namit Malhotra noted that the movie has been in the process of development for over 10 years as many teams dedicated their efforts to provide the audience with as close to the source as possible and a stunning picture. The production seeks to educate audiences across the globe about India and its traditions, arts, and culture, with the help of appealing visual presentation techniques.
