Rajasthan Speaker CP Joshi has moved the Supreme Court on Wednesday requesting an immediate hearing into the Gehlot and Pilot issue. The move by speaker came a day after the High Court relieved Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan Sachin Pilot and his Congress aides till Friday before any action.
Joshi’s representative eminent Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal mentioned the details before Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India S.A. Bobde.
Disqualification notices were served to 19 MLAs who rebelled against the Rajasthan presiding government including Deputy CM Sachin Pilot by Speaker CP Joshi last week on account of indulging in “anti-party activities”. Joshi has now approached India’s apex court with special petition in leu of a “constitutional crisis” in the state of Rajasthan.
Joshi said in his statement to news agency ANI, “Speaker has the complete authority to send a show-cause notice. I have asked my counsel to file SLP in Supreme Court.”
The High Court decision has however offered a breather to Pilot camp, in which the court asked Rajasthan Speaker to defer the decision and extend the period given to Deputy CM Pilot to reply to his notice. Speaker later agreed to defer any action till the evening of July 24. Initially the MLAs were told by Speaker to respond by July 17. In response to this the MLAs had approached High Court on July 16 citing that they are not bound to disqualification under the clause. Court had extended the deadline to July 21 after the July 17 hearing had remained inconclusive.
As the dispute and clashes between Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and Deputy CM Sachin Pilot are not looking to end any time soon with complex infighting, Congress has removed Pilot from both his designations – as Deputy Chief Minister and as state PCC chief.

Furthermore, Congress has not spared Pilot’s loyalists too. Vishvendra Singh and Ramesh Meena were also chucked out from the state cabinet. Also the state presidents of Youth Congress and Seva Dal were replaced.
