Owing to the decade-old tussle between BJP and Congress, Rahul Gandhi from the opposition takes the centre stage to demand action from the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi to act rather than just using his words. He accuses the PM of being absent from taking any actions all through the COVID-19 pandemic and it is time for him to act instead of giving speeches and advice. Provoking the people, he says India needs compassion and healing instead of “tears of guilt” and a strong resolve to defeat COVID-19 through good governance.
Although being I the moment and taking care of ground reality, Modi turned emotional while paying condolences to those who lost their lives due to coronavirus during a virtual interaction with doctors, paramedical staff and frontline health workers in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi.
Congress general secretary KC Venugopal mentioned, instead of speeches, instead of advice, the prime minister has to act at least now. His actions from the central government will mean a lot to console and uplift the nation that has been grieving.
Taking Rahul Gandhi’s side, Venugopal further adds that Rahul Gandhi had cautioned the prime minister about the COVID-19 “tsunami” last year, but everybody took it very lightly and instead mocked the Congress leader. He believes that it is more important than for every Indian that they should be stopped from going out and protect their lives.
It is also reported that taking the front seat during the pandemic, Congress workers and activists have worked to provide free ambulance and hearse vehicles, oxygen and oxygen concentrators, medicines, and home isolation kits, from arranging plasma donors to teleconsultations, from providing dry ration to food packets and even assisting in cremation and burial of their family members.
Referring to the remark made in March last year by Modi that the Mahabharata war was won in 18 days but the war against coronavirus will take 21 days, he says that PM should realize that 21-day nation-wide lockdown announced by him back then has turned into two years and condition has only got worse.
