Rahul Gandhi asks ‘can only Modi Ji walk in this country?’, while getting detained on the way to Hathras

On 1 Oct, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were forcefully stopped and arrested on way to Hathras when they were going to meet the family of the gang-rape victim who passed away on Tuesday.

“The police pushed me back, lathi-charged on me, and pushed me on the ground a few seconds back. I need to ask, can only PM Modi Ji walk in this nation? Can’t a normal human being walk? Our vehicle was halted, so we began marching on foot,” Rahul Gandhi asserted.

Rahul also alleged that Uttar Pradesh policemen manhandled him and lathi-charged when he and Priyanka were walking on the highway. They were arrested and later released by the U.P. cops.

During a heated exchange with the Uttar Pradesh policeman, Rahul asked “why and on what grounds are you arresting me? Please inform the media under which section you’re arresting me?” Under section 188, replied the policeman. The UP police held that large crowds were banned to gather in the state.

The Samajwadi Party also took part in the protest at the Hathras border, where they were also halted from reaching the gang-rape victims village. Various news channel reporters were also stopped and not allowed to proceed towards the Hathras village.

The victim, aged 20 was gang-raped by four men from the upper caste in the field near the town on September 14. She suffered many fractures, severe spinal injury, and paralysis. She was taken to a hospital in Delhi where she breathed her last. The police stated that she had gashed her tongue while the men were attempting to strangle her to death.

A nationwide protest emerged when the UP police forcefully took her body to the village and cremated her body while her family members were locked in the house. The family alleged that the police and the administration were very sloppy in registering their complaint because they were underprivileged caste or Dalit.

The Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has been facing immense criticism because of the surge in crimes against women in the state. All opposition parties have been criticizing the UP government for not taking adequate measures in ensuring safety for women in the region, The Hindustan Times reported.

Shiv Sena party member Sanjay Raut likewise condemned the Uttar Pradesh Police for the manhandling Congress’ member Rahul Gandhi. Raut stated that Rahul Ji is a respected Congress party leader…no one will support the police’s conduct with him and called the manhandling incident a gangrape of the nation’s democracy,” ANI reported.

Rahul also cited Mahatma Gandhi in his tweet later, “I will not fear anyone in the world … I will not bow down to anyone’s injustice. I will win the untruth with the truth, and I can bear all the sufferings while opposing the untruth,” The Hindustan Times published.
