On Thursday professional tennis star Rafael Nadal announced his retirement from professional tennis. His last appearance on the ground will be at the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga, for Spain in month of November 2024.
He made this announcement by using his official X platform, where he shared a video, and said, “I am here to let you know I am retiring from professional tennis. The reality is that it has been some difficult years, the last two especially.”
Indian Express said that this decision is coming because of persistent injury problems. In his video message, he said, “I don’t think I have been able to play without limitations.”
Nadal leaves behind a legacy of dominance at the tennis history. He secured 14 titles of French open, and 22-grand slam singles titles.
In his video message, he indicates that his final tournament will be the Davis Cup final in November. Spain will face the Netherlands in the quarter-finals between 19 and 21 November. This will be first time appearance after Paris Olympics. Let us remind you that in 2004 Spain secured the title of the Davis Cup because of Nadal.
In the video uploaded on X, he said, “But I am very excited that my last tournament will be the final of the Davis Cup and representing my country. I think I’ve come full circle, since one of my first great joys as a professional tennis player was the Davis Cup final in Seville in 2004.”
