Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh resigned on Saturday amid the continuous political row with Navjot Singh Sidhu. Sidhu was recently chosen as the chief of the Congress’ Punjab unit. Capt. Amarinder’s son Raninder Singh took to Tweeter and wrote that his dad had met the Governor at Raj Bhavan and submitted his resignation letter.
In a press conference, Capt said, the thing is, this has been happening for the third time that MLAs are called for a meeting, and questions are being asked about my leadership. This is very humiliating.
Amarinder told the press that he telephoned Congress president (Sonia Gandhi) today and said he wishes to resign from CM’s post. Currently, there are no plans to leave the Congress party.
The continuous political fight between Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu with Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is apparent to all as it has been seething since long when Sidhu exited from the cabinet. Just before the Punjab Assembly Election, scheduled early next year, the Congress party struggles with the tug of war between the two politicians inside the party’s Punjab unit.
It is understood that even the central leadership of Congress convening in Delhi has likewise attempted to conciliate the fight between two senior heads but failed.
The cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu was named the state president on July 18, overlooking the CM’s opposition to his rise. The fight, fuelled by the contending ambitions of both Sidhu and Singh, especially causing a divide in the party cadre, becoming uncertain of its influence on electoral prospects. Both the pioneers continued not letting go of any opportunity to pull each other down to exacerbate the situation. In the interim, the Congress officials meeting started in Chandigarh as programmed at 5 pm. Capt Amarinder Singh will not be attending the conference.
