Probabilities of Royal Challengers Bangalore to qualify for Playoffs and other teams race to clinch the Title

RCB kept their winning streak going by registering their 5th straight win yesterday at the Chinnaswamy over Rishabh Pant’s boys defeating the Delhi Capitals by 47 runs. Rishabh missed the match due to a match suspension and Axar Patel was made the Stand-in captain for the side.

Rajat Patidar was the highest scorer for RCB batting an explosive 52 off 32 balls at a strike rate of 162.50 hitting 3 fours and 3 maximums. Cameron Green was made Man of the Match for his all round performance of 1/19 in 4 overs and for scoring 32 runs off 24 balls. This win has kept the team’s fans hopes high as they want to see their team qualify for the playoffs and win their maiden tournament.

According to the points table, KKR has already qualified for the playoffs leaving the rest of the franchises to fight for the 3 left spaces. RCB now stands at the 5th place with 12 points and net run rate of +0.387 which comes 4th after KKR, SRH, and CSK. If the team wants to qualify, it needs to keep winning all the games. The best the team can do is play and tie for a third spot in the points table with 3 to 5 other teams. RCB’s next fixture is with CSK and to win the game and surge into the playoffs, the team needs to beat Dhoni’s men by at least 11 balls to spare if they are chasing or score a 200 plus score batting first and restrict Rituraj Gaikwad and his team by 18 runs. If they succeed in doing this, they might have a secured seat in the playoffs to come.

Strengths and plans for Qualifying for RCB

The good news for RCB is that it has come out all guns blazing at the right time and has kept on smashing wickets improving the poor bowling performances that it showed in the 1st half of the tournament. Adding to that Virat Kohli has been the top run getter in the tournament for the team till now and has been holding the orange cap. Although his rate of scoring has been under the scanner for quite a number of times this season, he has scored an incredible 634 runs at a crazy average of over 70.44 and a strike rate of 153.51.  To give support to him, his teammate and captain Faf Du Plessis has been smashing it out of the park for quite some time after regaining form although he couldn’t do it in the last match. Will Jacks and Dinesh Kartick have been giving the finishing touches to the innings too. Thus it seems that RCB is in good hands and may have a good shot at winning the trophy this season.

Other teams who are in the race for playoffs are Rajasthan Royals who have a 12.5% in finishing as table toppers and a 37.5% as joint toppers, the worst that can happen to them is they finish third with CSK meaning theoretically they can fail to qualify. Next is CSK who have a 91% chance to qualify for the playoffs, but only 3% chance to tie for third spot with KKR and RR. Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, Lucknow SuperGiants, and DC are out of the tournament’s race for the playoffs whereas Gujarat Lions have a slight chance for qualifying.
