PM Modi to Visit Wayanad for Aerial Survey After Devastating Landslides

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Wayanad on August 10 after the major landslides in the Chooralmala and Mundakkai areas. These devastating landslides occurred on July 30. Over 138 people are missing according to initial reports from local authorities. The rescue and recovery operations continue as over 1,026 personnel from the army, navy, and other forces, along with more than 500 volunteers and heavy machinery, work tirelessly to find those still unaccounted for.

The Kerala government is taking the initiative and running a search operation for missing individuals the updated list will be released soon.

Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, urged the central government to declare the Wayanad calamity a national disaster. During a session in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi highlighted the tragic impact of the landslides. Gandhi also called for higher compensation for those affected, stressing the need for substantial support to help the survivors rebuild their lives.

With the casualty count possibly exceeding 400, the Wayanad disaster is one of the most severe in recent history. The visit by Prime Minister Modi underscores the gravity of the situation, as the nation looks towards comprehensive relief and rehabilitation efforts for the affected communities in this northern district of Kerala.
