In the wake of increasing cases of Omicron variant in the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a review meeting on the current situation of the country where he will also be discussing the steps needed to tackle the spread of the virus. The meeting was attended by several senior officials and experts.
Maharashtra has been among the most affected states to be affected by the Covid-19 pandemic given the international population it is accustomed to however, in recent months, the state government has managed to control the spread to a lot of extents but not the Omicron variant has become the latest cause of concern.
In view of the rising number of cases in Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will hold a meeting with the Covid-19 Task Force today at 10 pm. The review will be conducted through a video conference.
Mumbai recorded 602 fresh cases of Covid-19 along with one death. This raised the overall tally to 7,68,750 and till now, the fatality count to 16,367, as Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. The recovery rate, however, is bettering with every passing day as the 207 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the day.
The deputy chief minister of the states, Ajit Pawar said “countrywide night lockdown” is being thought of at “highest levels” while also taking classes of those who were not seen wearing masks during the ongoing legislation.
The toll of Omicron cases has been increasing in India for the last 10 days and just like earlier, Maharashtra and Delhi NCR are the most crucial territories at present. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has already stated that there is an urgent need to stock up medicines to counter the process of fast spreading virus attack.
