Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually inaugurate the new integrated terminal building (NITB) at the Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The inauguration will be attended by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of State for Road, Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation, General (Retd.) V K Singh, and other senior officials.
The terminal building, shaped like a shell, will have 100% natural lighting for 12 hours a day and has been constructed at a cost of ₹ 707.73 crores.
It will have a capacity to handle 1,200 passengers during peak hours and around 40 lakh passengers annually.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of State for Road, Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation, General (Retd.) V K Singh, and other officials.
Prime Minister Modi and Minister Scindia shared pictures of the terminal on Twitter, highlighting its importance for tourism and infrastructure development in the region.

The terminal, covering 40,800 sqm, can accommodate around 5 million passengers annually. Its architectural design resembles a shell-shaped structure, representing the sea and islands.
The building incorporates sustainability features such as a double-insulated roofing system, skylights for natural light, LED lighting, and a rainwater catchment system.

Additionally, the terminal has an on-site sewage treatment plant and a solar power plant to minimize its environmental impact. The airport tarmac, costing ₹80 crore, can accommodate two Boeing-767-400 and two Airbus-a321-type aircraft, with parking space for 10 planes at a time. Port Blair is a popular tourist destination
